After devoting a summer inspiring others to responsibly enjoy the outdoors as Backpacker Magazine’s Get Out More Tour ambassadors, living out of a car, spending most of our time in the hustle and bustle of large cities, it is great to be living in a National Park again. Mid-May and we’re already out on the trail, what more could we ask for? Life is good! Spending a very chilly night in the backcountry of Kings Canyon NP we managed 22 miles with roughly 6,000 feet of elevation gain and subsequent loss over two days. Maxing out at just under 10,000 feet we tested the snow line and played in the burnt out forest. Last year a large fire ripped through this canyon leaving a scared landscape of black stumps and widow-maker limbs hanging haphazardly above the overgrown trail. |
