Avenue of the Giants Marathon for Mom
Avenue of the Giants Marathon 2014--Humboldt Redwoods State Park, CA.
I have to admit, the original motives for running this marathon were strictly selfish. Having never attempted anything of this magnitude, having never even considered myself a runner before this, I wanted to test myself both mentally and physically. However, during the first weeks of training I came to realize that I not only wanted, but needed more out of this marathon. The running first became tedious and then meaningless. I don't mean to down play the hardships of training for a marathon--it was absolutely one of the most difficult endeavors I've attempted in my life. What I do mean, is I was searching for a reason to run greater than myself.
The reason I found has been with me all along. She has been my biggest supporter and closest ally all my life--my Mom. Two years prior she had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Through the same strength that she gave me to run 26.2 miles, I know in my heart that she will rise above this disease. Thank you Mom for being the person you are, which in turn makes us all better versions of ourselves.
The support Becky and I received through donation for the NW Parkinson's Foundation surpassed our goal and touched our hearts. The final donation total amounted to over $2,000!!! We can't thank everyone who supported us enough--but thank you. Thank you for the support and love you've shown for my mom, and thank you for the encouragement and motivation for the marathon. We are blessed to have such great family and friends. Thank you to everyone who donated!
