Nepalese Himalayas - Oct-Dec 2013

While planning for a two month excursion in Nepal can be exciting, figuring out the logistics can be a little intimidating. For example, with no way of obtaining cash once the journey has begun, how much money should we carry with us to adequately supply ourselves with services such as--shelter, water, food, guide services, trekking and park permits? The answer that we found to this question was $2,000 US, which works out to be right around 202,120 Nepalese Rupees. That's a staggeringly uneasy amount to have on your person in any country, let alone in an unfamiliar third world country where the annual GDP per capita is only 151,590 Nepalese Rupees or roughly $1,500 US.

With a stack of bills two inches thick hidden in each of our bags, another large stack of bills folded and placed in a hidden pocket I'd sewn on the inside of my pants before we left the US, a small amount in Becky's pocket, and the amount we intend on spending each day in my front pocket, we set off into the mountains. Thankfully, not a single moment the whole time we were in Nepal did we feel threatened. It is a country filled with wonderful people and majestic mountains.
