DAY 28
K-39 Hwy, KS to Cassoday, KS

119 miles was our total mileage from the eventful, life threatening day before. We hadn't gone to bed until 11:30 pm and therefore had decided to sleep in until 6:30 am. Also, a storm had rolled in over night and wasn't supposed to break until after 8 this morning. What was the point of starting early only to be immediately wet and miserable? No point.

What?!? A hill in Kansas?

It was a very slow going day. The overcast dreary weather persisted into the afternoon. As the clouds eventually broke, the wind picked up. It was a steady south easterly wind, which meant as we zig zagged our way north and west across the state, we alternated between an uncomfortable cross wind to an excruciating head wind.

Despite the wind, it turned out to be a beautiful day

Our highlight for the day was the lunch buffet at Pizza Hut in Eureka. Without the eight slices of pizza and large salad I consumed, this trying 76 mile day into Cassoday wouldn't have been possible. Why were we so looking forward to Kansas?

Binge drifting is a way of life for us. Since we met in 2008, we have worked seasonally in 10 different states, driven across this amazing country of ours countless times, hiked from Mexico to Canada, bicycled from coast to coast and traveled the world. We hope you enjoy these tales of our journey chasing adventure!
