The last event of the 2015 Get Out More Tour is here. Where did the summer go! It seems like just yesterday we were loading up the Subaru and heading out on the road. Thirty thousand plus miles later we’re nearing the finish line. It’s funny how time works; when you’re in the mix of an epic adventure time appears to move slowly, but when you approach the end of the journey the moment seemed to have passed in the blink of an eye. At least this is the way I’ve experienced time and distinctive chapters of my life.

Having attended Go Out Side Fest in Roanoke Virginia and lived to speak about it, the one word I’d use to describe it would be… cold. Which I find ironic, because before this brush with fall in the Virginia highlands, my only experience with Virginia was merciless summer humidity. But fall in Western Virginia is no joke. With evening temperatures falling to below freezing and with screaming frigid wind chills during the day not feeling much better; cold is the theme of the festival. Our mantra for the weekend became “Go Inside Fest 2015”. We’re great Get Out More Tour Ambassadors aren’t we!?

In reference to backpacking preparedness in regards to clothing, utilizing layers is instrumental to staying comfortable and enjoying yourself in the outdoors. So layering up and bundling up is what we did. Stationed across from the dog jump pool and obstacle course, the event coordinators couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place for our booth to be located. It’s as if they know my wife. She’s a sucker for dogs! Consequently she watched the dogs all weekend while I manned the booth. Mostly kidding. The crowds didn’t let the cold bother them and the festival had a great turn out. We snuck away from our booth at times to visit with our friends at Blue Ridge Outdoor Magazine, People for Bikes and Floyd Fest. It was a great way to end our season, with new and old friends alike.

Binge drifting is a way of life for us. Since we met in 2008, we have worked seasonally in 10 different states, driven across this amazing country of ours countless times, hiked from Mexico to Canada, bicycled from coast to coast, and traveled the world. We hope you enjoy these tales of our journey chasing adventure!
