Pueblo, CO
The sky is beginning to brighten to the East behind us. An off ramp welcomes us to Pueblo, Colorado. Where to go? What to do? It's only 4:45 in the morning. Flats and Dirty B are three miles north at a Denny's Restaurant. We can't bring ourselves to go even a single extra mile out of our way after this dramatic night. We find a local diner where we split a steak and eggs plate along with a breakfast burrito. Falling asleep at the table we still have hours to kill before the bike shop opens. There we plan on treating our bicycles to a much needed tune-up in preparation for the mountains. After all these chore are done, we move to a cheap motel north of town that we share with Flats and Dirty B. The four of us take our turns showering and then immediately pass out for a two hour nap. Still delusional from the lack of sleep, we force ourselves to stay awake not wanting to ruin our sleeping schedule for tonight. I make the mistake of buying a 12 pack of beer from the grocery store. In Colorado, real beer is only sold in liquor stores. All beer sold elsewhere is watered down 3.2 beer. It's probably for the better. We're all asleep by 9:30.
